It is a new year and I am committed to achieving my mileage goal. Since I was 100 miles short last year I will again set the bar at a 2500-mile goal. This page chronicles my quest.
January
Monday the 1st to Friday the 5th – (60 miles this week/60 miles total)
The New Year brought continued warm weather. I fear the all great winter activities, such as cross-county skiing, will be lost in the city. I spoke with a colleague in NYC and it is far worse there 70s and no sign of winter. An island city that could one day vanish off into the sea! Unbelievable.
Saturday the 6th to Friday the 12th – (70 miles this week/130 miles total)
Winter’s regular glory returned to Minneapolis this week. It was a touch brisk by week’s end and what we in the area are recolied by is really regualar temps for this time of year.
Saturday the 13th to Friday the 19th – (70 miles this week/200 miles total)
Real cold weather finally arrived this week with reading below zero. About time, I say!
Saturday the 20th to Friday the 26th – (70 miles this week/270 miles total)
It is at this time that I wish March or April was the next month. The grey is starting to drag, and I hate February. At least the sun has begun to return.
Saturday the 27th to Friday the 2nd – (70 miles this week/340 miles total)
By weeks end the weather turned to the coldest in more than three years and it will last into the weekend and early next week. I have to ski next weekend, that will be an adventure! I did receive a shot of spring with ironman registrations opening today.
February
Saturday the 3rd to Friday the 9th – (60 miles this week/400 miles total)
I had to take a few days off this week. On Monday the thermometer displayed -14 at 7:15 a.m. I am crazy but not that crazy. Also two weeks of the punishing temps zapped my energy. On my way home Friday, my lungs felt raw and very unpleasant.
Saturday the 10th to Friday the 16th – (50 miles this week/450 miles total)
The weather has finally broke me and the miles for the week reflect this. I broke for the weekend and a few days off, but mostly because I could not keep my body warm. Next week I here there will be temps above the freezing mark, but that what they said last week.
Saturday the 17th to Friday the 23rd – (62 miles this week/512 miles total)
The winter is coming in seperate sections. First, no winter, then deep cold, then 10 feet of snow. I cannot wait until spring.
Saturday the 17th to Friday the 23rd – (19 miles this week/531 miles total)
A combination of lost garage keys and 4 feet of snow impacted my ability to ride. March defiantly came in like a lion this year.
